Tracked vs. Calculated Calories

Tracked vs. Calculated Calories

You may notice that the calorie numbers in Apotheo don't exactly match what your nutrition tracking app shows. This is normal and nothing to worry about.

Why the Numbers Differ

Nutrition apps like MyFitnessPal display tracked calories — the calorie values from food labels and database entries. These are often rounded numbers.

Apotheo displays calculated calories — calories computed from your tracked macros using standard conversion factors:

  • 1g Protein = 4 calories
  • 1g Carbohydrate = 4 calories
  • 1g Fat = 9 calories
  • 1g Alcohol = 7 calories

Because food label calories are rounded, the tracked and calculated values rarely match exactly.

Which One Is Correct?

Both are valid — they're just calculated differently. The important thing is consistency. Your coach can view both values in your check-in and understands the difference.

If you're hitting your macro targets, you're automatically hitting your calorie target. Focus on the macros rather than the calorie number.
