The difference between Tracked vs. Calculated calories

Tracked vs. Calculated calories

The calories reported by food tracking apps will rarely match the calories calculated from macros.

Most entries in tracking app databases are taken from food labels, which are rounded. Some tracking apps do not verify user supplied entries and are prone to errors.

Apotheo allows you to toggle between Tracked and Calculated calories on the client's check-in:

Tracked - the amount of calories according to the tracking app's database entry.
Calculated - the amount of calories calculated from the provided macros.

If there's a large discrepancy between Tracked and Calculated calories, and the client hasn't tracked alcohol, it's likely that the nutrition information is wrong for one or more of the items they've tracked that day.

Alcohol

Not all apps track alcohol separately. If a client tracks alcohol then Tracked calories may give a better estimate of their calorie intake for that day.

For clients that track alcohol regularly we recommend the following apps:

Cronometer — tracks alcohol grams separately, allowing Apotheo to calculate calories from alcohol
MacrosFirst — has a built in "converter" that allows clients to deduct alcohol calories from their carb or fat target.
