# Setting Up a Custom URL

By default, your clients access your portal at an Apotheo URL. You can replace this with a custom URL like **clients.yourdomain.com** so your portal feels like part of your brand.

## Overview

Setting up a custom URL involves two steps:

1. Add a DNS record with your domain provider
2. Contact Apotheo support to complete the configuration

## Step 1: Add a CNAME Record

Log in to your domain provider's DNS settings and add a **CNAME record** with the following values:

| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| **Type** | CNAME |
| **Host / Name** | `clients` (or your preferred subdomain) |
| **Points to / Value** | `app.apotheo.com` |

This tells browsers that `clients.yourdomain.com` should point to Apotheo's servers.

> **Note:** DNS changes can take up to 24 hours to propagate, though most providers update within minutes.

## Step 2: Contact Support

After adding the CNAME record, email [support@apotheo.com](mailto:support@apotheo.com) with:

- Your custom URL (e.g. `clients.yourdomain.com`)
- Your Apotheo account email

We'll configure SSL and link the domain to your account.

## Provider-Specific Instructions

### GoDaddy

See [GoDaddy's CNAME help page](https://www.godaddy.com/help/add-a-cname-record-19236).

### Squarespace

See [Squarespace's custom DNS records guide](https://support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002101888-Adding-custom-DNS-records-to-your-Squarespace-managed-domain).

### Bluehost

See [Bluehost's CNAME help page](https://www.bluehost.com/hosting/help/cname). Enter `clients` as the host record and `app.apotheo.com` as the target.

### Wix

See [Wix's CNAME records guide](https://support.wix.com/en/article/adding-or-updating-cname-records-in-your-wix-account).

### Other Providers

The process is similar across providers. Look for **DNS settings**, **DNS records**, or **Domain management** in your provider's dashboard and add a CNAME record as described above.

## Troubleshooting

- **URL not working after adding the record** — DNS propagation can take up to 24 hours. If it's still not working after that, double-check the CNAME values.
- **SSL certificate errors** — make sure you've contacted support so we can provision an SSL certificate for your domain.
- **Subdomain already in use** — if `clients` is taken, you can use any subdomain (e.g. `portal`, `app`, `coaching`).
